October PBIS Assembly: Pre K celebrates highest attendance: 2nd grade PTA Night: Unity Day, field trips, etc:
For many children, bus drivers are the first smiling adult they see each morning and the last they see before they get home. Bus drivers brave the traffic and weather to get our students safely where they need to be each day. For a week in October, SME honors the integral role these individuals play in our students' lives.
Satilla Marsh appreciates our bus drivers! The Glynn County Student Advisory Council selects a Difference Maker from each school, teachers who make a positive impact within their schools and community.
Mrs. Carlotta Mitchell is the Difference Maker at Satilla Marsh Elementary. "Everybody makes a difference," Mrs. Mitchell says. "I can't do what I do unless someone else has prepared them." "We’re a family in Mrs. Mitchell’s class" says Jayden, one of her second-year students. Mrs. Mitchell looped with her fourth-now-fifth graders. "I drive 18 miles to work each day. I'm always thinking about how to present a new adventure each day," Mrs. Mitchell says. Here's what else her students say about her: She helps us set goals. She makes us laugh. She keeps us healthy. She saves our life. She gets us smarter She knows we can do better. She challenges us. She shows us how to act & be respectful. Mrs. Mitchell divides her class into different groups, each with their own mission. This is how students describe their groups' mission: Adventure: "We find new ways how to solve a problem." Explorer: "We find the answers." Love: "We don’t do anything with hate." Busy: "We keep everyone on track & organized." Purpose: "We wake up with a goal." The Voice: "Be your own voice, not an echo." Inside our classrooms: curiosity, interest, optimism, passion and motivation. Robotics, magnetism, and "escaping from Emoji Island" with mathematics: Fire safety and wildlife: Halloween fractions and collaborative presentations:
The fifth grade class had a lunch celebration for having 98.2% attendance during the month of September. Congratulations fifth grade!
For most of us, “recess” means kick ball, swinging on monkey bars, and running around in the sun. But fourth-graders Annelise and Rylie see it as an opportunity for something out of the ordinary: a time to make music with friends. For two years, the creative duo have devoted their free time to hone their musical craft. “We don’t care to be famous. We do it because we want to help people open up,” says Annelise, who lugs her guitar toward the playground while others play catch or jump on balance beams. “We’re trying to start a little community for people who like music but don’t open up to sing because they’re shy,” says Rylie. Indeed, they have started a community. Groups of friends join in to sing as the pair lead cover songs and share original compositions. “She’s really stuck with it,” says Rylie’s mother. “She’s so excited about it.”
The joy is contagious watching them sing with passion on their faces. More join in and others watch on as Annelise and Rylie sing as voices of hope and perseverance for their classmates. |
